Memorial Day remembrance scheduled
COTTONWOOD - The Memorial Day weekend is a time for remembering and honoring the millions of veterans who have served in defense of our great country and are no longer with us.
Commander Don Finney says, this year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars United States Post 7400 says as part of the Remembrance, the post will hold it's tribute to the fallen at Valley View Cemetery in Clarkdale at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 31. The public is invited to this solemn event. There will be shade and chairs available. The VFW says, come and help us honor those no longer with us who served in defense of our country.
As part of the Memorial weekend remembrance, the Veterans of Foreign Wars will place white crosses on veterans' graves in the cemeteries in Jerome, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, and Sedona during three-day weekend. The Sons of the American Legion Post #25 in Cottonwood will also be placing crosses during the weekend.
Anyone whose beloved veteran does not have a cross on his or her grave is asked to call 634-9769, 639-1526, or 649-2129 to report this. The VFW will need the name, cemetery, and section for the placement. Please do not remove a cross from another deserving veteran's grave to place on your vet's site.
The American Legion has scheduled a potluck for veterans as part of the Memorial Day events.
