Floyd R. Agan

Floyd R. Agan, 80, of Camp Verde, Arizona passed away on November 4, 2010. Floyd was born September 3, 1930 to Rex and Audrey May Agan in Lucas County, IA.

He graduated from Knoxville High School in Knoxville, IA in 1948 and engaged in farming. On September 9, 1950, he married Mary Slykhuis at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA. They spent the first 26 years of their married life farming, first at Columbia, IA and then on a farm they bought near Dallas, IA. They were awarded Farm Family of the Year in 1970, first in a two county area and then were one of six district winners over the whole state of Iowa’s 99 counties. Their award was for taking a run down farm and making improvements with conservation measures and cleaning it up with a lot of hard work along with their children’s help.

Due to Floyd’s health, they sold their farm in 1976 and moved to Flagstaff, AZ., where Floyd gained employment at Northern Arizona University.

In 1986, they moved to Camp Verde, AZ. Floyd started gardening in his spare time from work and sold vegetables at the Tlaquepaque Farmers Market in Sedona. He retired as Supervisor of Academic Custodians at NAU in 1994. He continued gardening especially being proud of his tomatoes and green chilies.

Declining health finally forced him to give up gardening. Floyd was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gretta Moffet of Tucson AZ.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Mary; two sons, Gary Agan of Huston, TX and Randy Agan of Flagstaff AZ.; his daughter, Crystal (Mike) Tucker of Camp Verde, AZ; his brother, Fred (Sandy) Agan of Harvey, IA; his sister, Kae (Richard) Stout of Chariton, IA;  his brother in-law Marvin Moffett of Tucson AZ; four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three great grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

At his request, no services were planned. The family requests that any memorial contributions be made in his memory to Hospice Compassus, 70 Bell Rock Plaza, Suite A Sedona, AZ 86351.
