Holocaust Memorial ceremony scheduled for Sunday at JCSVV

Erev Shabbat services at the Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley begin on Friday, April 29, led by Rabbi Magal. The Oneg is sponsored by Clare and Milt Small.

Saturday, April 30, 10 a.m. celebration of Alexander Ochser becoming a Bar Mitzvah. Alexander will chant from Torah portion “Kedoshim” Leviticus 19-20, about ways to be holy. No Torah study session this week.

Sunday, May 1, Religious School at 10 a.m. and Adult Beginning Hebrew at 11:30 a.m. Our annual Holocaust Memorial ceremony begins at 1 p.m., co-sponsored by the Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley, Heichal Baoranim congregation in Flagstaff, and the Martin-Springer Institute of NAU. Two Holocaust survivors, Doris Martin, and Nika Fleissig, will be honored. A scene from a play about Doris Martin’s life will be presented in music and dance by students from Coconino Community College in Flagstaff. Rabbi Alicia Magal will read from her recently published book about her mother, Nika Fleissig: “From Miracle to Miracle: A Story of Survival. The program is free to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Wednesday, May 4 at 8:30 a.m., egalitarian morning minyan for a mid-week spiritual uplift. Rabbi Levertov’s educational series on the Ethics of the Sages and the portion of the week, beginning at 7 p.m.
