This week at Grace Lutheran

Grace Community Lutheran Church, 5100 Stevenson, Rimrock, has Sunday Service at 10:30 a.m. Advent soup supper and service are Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service is at 7 p.m.

At first I enjoyed the wet weather we have been having. But after several days it is starting to get a bit old. Dreary weather makes for a dreary day. Dreary days make for a dreary mood. I used to live in South Dakota and we would often get months of this kind of weather. And it was a challenge to not be in a down mood at times, just because of the weather.

There are so many things in the world that affect our mood, some more significantly that the weather. We also have good times just as we have good weather and in those times our mood and everything is almost always better. It usually follows that in our worst times we turn to God, but in our better times we tend to forget about Him. While this is not always the case I think most of us can recognize that we usually do this.

While it is good, even absolutely necessary, to turn to God in our challenging or down times, it is also good to turn to God in our better times. Not just because we think we might owe God some thanks for the blessings in our lives, but also because God desires our companionship.

In good times and bad God desires us to seek Him out and have a relationship with Him. In our best human relationships we share all the situations of our lives. Why should it be any different with God? If I were to ask God to improve the weather, I should desire to thank Him when it is a beautiful day. So it should be with all of our lives especially with the events that are more important than today’s weather.

God truly does want an interactive relationship with us. This is one of the things that the message of Christmas teaches us. God loved mankind to the extent that He sent His Son in human form to be with us. It shows us how important people are to God. I hope we can learn to live our lives with this understanding of God and relate to Him in this way. Good times and bad, God is there to share with us.

My hope and prayer for all of us, is that we are able to be close to God this way. To be close with Him in every situation in our lives. It will make the dreary days much brighter and the bright days fantastic.
