Sunset Crater was formed by a series of eruptions beginning around 1049 and the cycle for new volcanic activity is between eight hundred and a thousand years up here so we may yet get to witness an eruption up here. I like the way that this shot displays the volcano at rest and the heart shape caldera belies the destructive past or perhaps it is an invitation or a trap.
