Carol Blaich 1945-2011

Carol Janet Blauert Blaich, born December 26, 1945, in Frazee, Minnesota, died July 14, 2011 in Edmonds, Washington. Carol was the youngest of Emil and Bertha Blauert's three children and grew up on their dairy farm in rural Minnesota.

Carol studied nursing and became a Registered Nurse in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She later went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at the University of Minnesota and a Master of Arts in sociology from Northern Arizona University.

She married Keith Blaich in 1972 and had two daughters. In 1979, along with her family, Carol moved to Arizona where she worked in county health and elder care while raising her children. She served on the first town council of Camp Verde, Arizona and later as the town's vice mayor. She was involved in county planning, arts programming, and hospice services.

Carol moved to Washington in order to be closer to her oldest daughter and two granddaughters and continued her work with elder care at both ElderHealth Northwest and the Crisis Clinic. She was an advocate for the elderly and worked tirelessly for the dignified treatment of seniors.

Carol loved her family and was happy to be a vibrant part of her granddaughters' lives. She was passionate about reading and enjoyed sharing book recommendations with friends and family. She was also an avid movie fan and was fiercely competitive in her family's annual Oscar competition. Carol also enjoyed travel, politics, needlepoint, and her pets.

Carol is survived by her brothers, Harry and David Blauert; her daughters, Tavia Tan and Tamara Blaich; and their father, Keith Blaich; her sons-in-law Andre Tan and Seth Flaum; her grand-daughters, Fiona and Amelia Tan; as well as nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.
