COTTONWOOD - A 21-year old Cottonwood woman has been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. The woman's car allegedly struck and killed 75-year-old Matthew Busich of Cottonwood on State Route 260, just south of the Fir Street intersection.
According to witnesses, Busich had left his vehicle and was walking in the northbound lane of the state highway looking for something that had fallen from the car.

The drivers of the vehicle, Aracely Machado Romero, continued to drive away without stopping to assist the man, according to the report.
The police accident investigation team believes the woman's vehicle was traveling about 30 mph at the time of the collision.
The woman went home and told a friend about the accident. The friend then called police. Romero was arrested and booked into the Yavapai County jail, charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, a Class-3 felony.
