This week at Grace Community Lutheran
Grace Community Lutheran Church in Rimrock has Sunday Worship at 10:30 a.m.
Today I have been thinking about forgiveness. Forgiveness is one of the more difficult things a Christian is asked by God to do. There is no question that we are supposed to forgive. We clearly recognize this every time we say the Lord’s Prayer.
Forgive us our sins or trespasses as we forgive those who sin or trespass against us. It is pretty clear, we are supposed to forgive. Knowing this doesn’t make it any easier.
Almost everyone has someone in their life that is just plain difficult to forgive. And some people have events in their past lives that are so bad that it is extremely difficult to get beyond them. To help with this it is good to remember that God isn’t asking you to do anything that He hasn’t done Himself.
God offers forgiveness to all even the worst among us. God sent His Son to die so that any who would believe that God would do this are forgiven. Are you waiting for that person in your life who has wronged you to apologize or make amends before you even consider forgiving them? That is the way we usually are. But contrast this with how God is. He sent Jesus to die for us before we repent or acknowledge we need forgiveness. This is our example of how to forgive. It is an action within us and should not be dependent on the other person. Failing to forgive really allows the other person some control over your life. The only being that should control your life is your Lord and Savior.
Do your best to forgive as He teaches. It is a path towards more peace and happiness.
