Letter: C’mon GOP, let’s see a comprehensive jobs bill
Where are the jobs? In 2010 leading up to the mid-term elections, Republicans and Democrats alike were all about jobs, jobs, jobs.
Well, it’s been three months since then now, and we have tax cuts, spending cuts, threats to shut down the government, but no significant jobs legislation. In fact, by limiting or cutting government expenditures during this slump, we are all but assuring a slow recovery. Why do you suppose this is? I think the GOP is not as interested in creating jobs as they said they were, because they’re counting on high unemployment to work against the reelection of President Obama in 2012.
The main problem with our economy is NOT the large and growing debt (although it’s definitely a problem too), it’s the high unemployment. When we get America back to work, we’ll see not only increased revenues, but also less government spending on safety net programs, both of which will help reduce the size of our deficit.
So, c’mon GOP, let’s see a good comprehensive jobs bill out of the house. Soon.
