Library the best bargain in the Village

Free! Free! Free! As a smart consumer when you see something advertised for “free," you tend to exercise caution.

However, in the case of Sedona Public Library (SPL), most library services are provided free of charge to patrons. When you own a library card, you have access to a vast collection of library books from the Yavapai Library Network.

You may borrow DVD’s, books on CD, Playaways, videos, music CDs, audio tapes, and periodicals. With your library card, pin number and computer, you can download e-books and audio books. SPL has online databases and interlibrary loan.

If you are in the market to purchase a car, research your options using the online database for Consumer Reports. If you want to learn a language, you may use the online interactive program called Mango Languages. Are you looking for a good book for your next book club selection? Try the online database called Novelist.

Patrons at Sedona Public Library in the Village (SPL-V) may use computers and Wi-Fi for free. VOC patrons appreciate the option of picking up their holds and returning library materials to SPL-V.

Ron Hansen, a regular at SPL-V, commented “I like to use the Village of Oak Creek Branch of the Sedona Library because it is a lot more fun to walk to it than to drive to the library in West Sedona. Since I go there at least three times a week to pick up movies, it saves over $10 a week in gas money.”

The Arizona Humanities Council and Friends of the Library provide free programs and book discussions.

The next program is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8, at Sedona Winds located at 405 Jacks Canyon Road. The program entitled “Making Do with Less: Arizona Women and the Great Depression” will be presented by Mary Melcher. The program begins at 1:30 p.m.

In preparation for the SPL-V book sale, don’t forget to bring your donations to the library.

The book sale will be held at the Village fire station June 24-26. We need volunteers to set up, sort and price books, sell and restock, and transport items to storage.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Cheryl Yeatts at 928.284.1603 or email cyeatts@sedonalibrary.org.

Many people are discovering that Sedona Public Library in the Village is one of the best bargains in town.

If you do not have a library card, you are missing out on great services provided for the community. SPL-V is located in Suite C-102 at 7000 Highway 179 in the courtyard of Tequa Plaza.

Hours are 1-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
