Home burns in Verde Village
VERDE VILLAGE-- A double-wide mobile home on Western Drive in Verde Village caught fire and burned Thursday afternoon. Verde Valley Fire's Operations Chief Jerry Doerksen says crews stopped the fire before the entire structure was fully destroyed, but the mobile will likely be "totaled,' he believes.
The fire originated on a screened-in rear porch but the exact origin is still under investigation. There was heavy fire burning when the crews arrived.
Flames burned into the back bedroom, the roof and utility room. Fire crews stopped fire, but the house suffered serious smoke and heat damage.
While the cause of this fire is ongoing the Fire Investigators believe this fire may have started from an accidentally discarded smoking material. The Verde Valley Fire District would like to remained area residents to be careful when smoking and all smoking material should be extinguished in a fire safe ashtray or a large coffee can.
According to Doerksen, the Trauma Intervention volunteer was instrumental finding shelter for the couple and contacting the new VA clinic to restore medications lost in the fire. Red Cross also helped out.
In addition to the two Verde Valley engines, there were also engines from Cottonwood and Clarkdale and Verde Valley Ambulance.
