Sonny and Darlene Mathews: 50 Years Together
J.C. (Sonny) and Darlene Mathews celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, Oct. 21, with an Evening of Dinner and Dance, “Cowboy-Hawaiian Style.”
The celebration was hosted by their children: Deon Murphy, Daryl, Dana Leach, Doree, David, Denae Uhler and Desrael Nebeker. Each contributed something special to the evening.
Sonny and Darlene were married on Saturday, Oct. 21, 1961, in Cottonwood at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The anniversary celebration had 160 guests in attendance. Eight of these guests attended the wedding 50 years ago. They are Yvonne Taylor of Tucson, Tee Cook of Henderson, Nev., Linda Cook of Flagstaff, Delhart and Betty Sue Dugan, Scharlotte Sloan and Ella Johnson, all of Camp Verde.
Dinner was catered by Sam Plunkett with Hawaiian Bar-B-Q. Entertainment of Polynesia was provided by the OHANA (family) and friends. Music for the evening was the celebrated couple’s favorite country-western dance tunes. A short dance followed the entertainment. Thanks to all who made this a memorable occasion, from Sonny and Darlene.
