Oakcreek Ladies Club claims Team Play title
There are so many reasons to love golf, let me count the ways. I’ll think of a bunch but I’m sure you will have your own. It's a great way to spend a chunk of time away from regular life. Although, with some golfers, that is where they really live.
“Outdoors" is another great aspect of playing the game and for those of us who don’t like the camping thing, it’s a rather civilized way to get your vitamin D. Then there’s the game itself. It’s challenging and a great way to trick yourself into exercise.
I usually think of golf as an individual achievement pursuit. Me and the ball against the course. Me, challenging me to better my score. Watching my handicap - well, do nothing in my case - but in theory, get lower as I achieve, achieve, achieve. But there are times when golf is a team effort.
Sometimes a sports game is fun just because it is, fun I mean. But then there are times when the sheer tension of the game makes it so much better, and the victory so much sweeter, for both us on the sidelines and the ones making the actual effort. So, without much further drumroll, big congratulations to the Oakcreek Country Club, Ladies Club.
Team for their victory in winning the Team Play competition amongst the participating clubs.
The Oakcreek CC Ladies Club Team played 10 games against other clubs in Northern Arizona, from Williams to Prescott. Behind but not defeated through the eight games, then winning the ninth by a gnats whisper of 1.5 points, and winning the tenth game to take the overall event.
Let’s send some club pride out to LeeAnn Morgan, Lori Zaun, Caroline Wallis, Julie Larson, Donna Cantello, Kelly Martinez, Barbara Erickson, Ann Glutting and Kathy Davidson and congratulations, Ladies Club Team, to fun well had and a fair fight fought.
