Villager Ann Glutting aces Elephant Rock par 3 hole
According to a Golf Digest study, the odds of getting a hole-in-one are 1 in 12,000. Ann Glutting hit a hole in one at an Elephant Rocks partners tournament on July 26, on a 101-yard par 3.
“It was quite a day,” said Ann, “two closest to the pin including the hole in one.” The odds of getting two holes-in-one in one round are 67,000,000, so we think Ann did pretty well.
OCCWGA members showed well in the August NAWGA Stroke Play tournament at Talking Rock, with winners in five flights: Lori Zaun 1st low gross flight 1; Ann Glutting 2nd low gross flight 2; Sandy Bruns 3rd low gross flight 4; Carol Meiner 1st low net flight 5; and Donna Cantello won $44 for being closest to the pin.
Viola Icken, President of The Niners, reminds you that you don’t have to be a member of the club to play on Thursdays with this 9-hole league. Just call the Pro Shop and ask to be included as a guest of the Niners. There is a different competition each week, and while this group is not too serious about the game, we do play by the rules, so it is a great way to learn. We also enjoy special events at other clubs. Recently Munds Park held their Pinewood Niners Invitational and our Izzy Simmer and Estel Menor took first place in their flights.
The Niners will surely miss pro Paula Hicks while she is away on her year-long travels. Because of her encouragement and teaching skills, she is the reason we love the game and actually have fun while playing. Many of us “graduated” from Paula’s Naughty Niners, a group for beginners, and fortunately Heather Risk will continue working with this group. If you are a beginning golfer, this is a great place to start.
In September, OCCWGA members can look forward to three events: an Interclub at OCC on September 4, the NAWGA Partners Tournament at Aspen Hills on September 18, and the AWGA Seniors Tournament at Seville Golf Club in Gilbert Sept 24 to 26.
