The Verde Valley Guidance Clinic has completed its acquisition of Valley Medical Center with the granting of a license from the Arizona Department of Health Services.

Valley Medical Center, a family medicine and pediatric practice located at 214 S. Main St. in Cottonwood had been owned and operated by Dr. Henry Kaldenbaugh, M.D. since it opened in 1989.

Dr. Kaldenbaugh, along with Dr. Jura Adomeniene, M.D., a board certified Pediatrician, will continue to provide services at Valley Medical Center.

They are joined by Terah Walsworth, Physician Assistant. Jessie Peters, Nurse Practitioner, will divide her time between Valley Medical Center and Verde Valley Connections, the Guidance Clinic's primary care facility.

Verde Valley Guidance Clinic CEO, Robert Cartia, citing the nationwide move to bring together behavioral health and primary care, said it makes sense for the Clinic to collaborate with Dr. Kaldenbaugh and Valley Medical Center.

"Valley Medical Center is a well-thought-of, high volume provider of primary care for children and families," he said.

"Incorporating Valley Medical Center into the Clinic's network of services will help the Verde Valley Guidance Clinic expand its continuum of care and position itself as a more complete health care provider," Cartia added.

Verde Valley Guidance Clinic expanded its services to include primary medical care with the opening of Verde Valley Connections Primary Care on the Clinic's Cottonwood Campus in 2009.

While patients of Valley Medical Center will continue to receive their usual medical services, they will now also have easier access to behavioral health services through Verde Valley Guidance Clinic. Understanding that mental health and physical health are closely related has led to a nationwide trend toward "integration" of the two disciplines, improving access to care and bidirectional referral services.

Verde Valley Guidance Clinic, founded in 1965, is Northern Arizona's oldest community behavioral health clinic, with offices in Camp Verde and Sedona, and the main campus at 8 E. Cottonwood St. in Cottonwood.

Verde Valley Guidance Clinic is contracted through NARBHA, the Regional Behavioral Health Authority for Coconino, Navajo, Yavapai, Apache and Mohave counties.

Funds for services are provided through a contract with the Arizona Department of Health Services/Division of Behavioral Health Services and AHCCCS. For more information, contact Richard Dehnert, Community Relations Coordinator, 634-2236.
