Old Town lights up Christmas season
The Old Town Cottonwood Holiday Light Show comes alive every evening on the City Buildings along the main street of Old Town Cottonwood. Tens of thousands of LED lights depict various holiday scenes coordinated to a seasonal audio soundtrack of traditional and contemporary holiday musical favorites. One selection features the 4th and 5th grade students of the Cottonwood Elementary School, Mrs. Schwartz Director.
Nearly a thousand man hours were needed to design; install the lights and electrical system; and coordinate the lights to the music.
The presentation makes use of 256 electrical circuits, each computer controlled in tenths-of-a-second increments painstakingly synchronized to a holiday soundtrack. The one hundred foot long background has over 5,000 LED lights that were hand tied into place by volunteers.
The production was created and built by Yavapai Broadcasting Corporation, operator of the local radio stations; KVRD, KKLD, KQST, KYBC, KVNA AM-FM and Cable Channel 2, in conjunction with assistance from the Public Works and Utilities staff of the City of Cottonwood.
This 30-minute sound and light spectacular will start every evening on the hour and half-hour from 5:30 p.m with the last show starting at 9 p.m. The presentation will take place nightly through Jan 1.
