Officer involved shooting in Camp Verde
CAMP VERDE -- Friday evening, deputies from the Camp Verde Marshal's Office were involved in a shooting with a Prescott Valley man following after a pursuit involving Department of Public Safety and Yavapai Sheriff officers. A suspect was hit and wounded, but not critically.
Early information to the Camp Verde Marshal's Office was that DPS and YCSO officers had been pursuing an armed and possible suicidal man driving north on Interstate 17. The pursuit apparently began in the Cordes Junction area. The chase ended in the Town of Camp Verde and CVMO deputies responded to assist after the man fled his vehicle on foot.
Deputy David Freeman of the Camp Verde Marshals Office located the man in a vacant lot. During the contact, the man displayed a weapon and Deputy Freeman fired several rounds at him. Deputy Freeman was not injured, nor were any other officers injured in the incident. The man was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
The man is identified as 45-year-old Kenneth Kazubowski of Prescott Valley .
Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is conducting the criminal investigation into the incident. The Department of Public Safety is conducting the shooting investigation. Cottonwood Police Department will conduct the administrative investigation at the request of the Marshal's office.
