Four dead in copter crash near Camp Verde

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office personnel found four people dead Sunday where a helicopter crashed into a remote section of the Verde River about six miles southeast of Camp Verde Saturday.

The dead were pilot Raymond Perry, 70, of Phoenix, Karen Stinn, 68, of Cave Creek, Mike Dunaway, 63, of Glendale, and his wife Linda Dunaway, 64, the YCSO reported.

The 1990 Aerospatiale AS350 helicopter departed from Sedona for Scottsdale with four people aboard at about 8 a.m. Saturday, YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said.

After someone reported the copter was overdue in Scottsdale, Civil Air Patrol search crews began looking for it, D'Evelyn said.

A private pilot spotted aircraft wreckage at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday, the FAA said.

A DPS helicopter crew confirmed at least two fatalities and then the YCSO ground crew arrived at the site to confirm all four were dead, the YCSO reported.
