Naughty Niners golf program changes

Paula Hicks

Paula Hicks

Paula Hicks, the Naughty Niners Golf Pro for the past 5 years, will be leaving Sedona on Aug. 1.

She and her husband Pat sold their home in VOCA and will be traveling the U.S. and Canada in their new truck & fifth-wheel trailer for the next year. They plan on returning to Sedona to occasionally visit friends and teach a little golf, and if all goes well, return to the Village after about a year.

Paula will be still be sending out her popular newsletters and as she travels throughout the U.S. and Canada, she will post golf travelogue & lesson videos on her website, SedonaGolfLessons.com.

She’ll also be holding golf clinics in Ogden, Utah, and Bend, Ore. … this road adventure sounds an awful lot like a hard working adventure!

But once you get the golf “bug,” it’s hard to stop, and Paula’s been playing golf since she was 15 and after graduating from college with an Art degree, she became a golf pro at Ojai Valley Inn in Ojai, Calif.

She worked there two years with the goal of becoming a tour player, but ended up putting her golf career on hold for over 20 years while she raised a family and ran a successful retail corporation, retiring in 1998.

She then become a member of the LPGA, returned to Ojai Valley Inn, and resumed her golf career where she taught many Hollywood film personalities including Sandra Bullock, Ted Danson, Mary Steenbergen and Malcom McDowell.

She also played with Richard Crenna, James Garner, Alice Cooper, Kurt Russell and many others, too numerous to mention!

If you have ever played or currently play in the Naughty Niners, they are planning a fond “Farewell Til We Meet Again” party for Paula on Tuesday, July 24, 6-7:30 p.m., after Naughty Niner golf play.

To attend, please RSVP by emailing Fran Levengood at levengf@suddenlink.net.

If you’re not familiar with the Naughty Niners (NN’ers) Golf Group, it is a group of women who get together twice a month to play golf and socialize in a non-competitive environment.

The only requirement to become a member is to commit to having a good time!

If you’d like to join or “try out” this friendly and fun ladies golf group, please contact Naughty Niner’s new Pro, Heather Risk, who will be continuing the program!

Heather is Oak Creek Country Club’s Assistant Head Golf Pro and like Paula, an LPGA Class A Teaching Pro. Contact Heather at the Oak Creek Country Club; tel: 928-284-1660.

If you’re already a member, Heather will be in touch with you about August and future play dates.
