Captain Kirk appointed interim chief
COTTONWOOD -- City Manager Doug Bartosh announced Friday the interim appointment of Capt. Mike Kuykendall to serve as the City of Cottonwood fire chief upon the retirement of Chief Mike Casson May 23.
Kuykendall (pronounced: Kirk'uhn-dahl) has served in the Cottonwood Fire Department for almost 24 years and as a fire captain during the past 17 years. Prior to his career in the fire service he was a police officer and deputy sheriff in Springerville and Yavapai County. He has significant training and experience in the fire services and also services as a minister during the weekends.
In making the announcement Bartosh said, "Mike is the right choice for the fire department and he will ensure that the proud tradition and excellent reputation of the Cottonwood Fire Department continues to advance. He is well respected by peers and subordinates and I feel very confident with his abilities."
The decision regarding the appointment of a permanent fire chief will be made within the next three to six months.
