Barbara Ruth Estes

Barbara Ruth Estes, 1937-2012, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, Nev.

Born April 15, 1937, in Nashville, Tenn., the daughter of Ruth and Taylor Estes. While growing up, her family lived in several mining towns including Tonopah, Nev., and Jerome, AZ. She attended school in Camp Verde and Cottonwood.

Barbara was a resident of Las Vegas for over 40 years and held many jobs there including driving a truck for Gilbert Trucking, waitress at Ceasar’s Palace, The Country Inn and Mustang Sally’s. She also enjoyed working as a sales person for Shepler’s Western Wear.

Barbara always had a special place in her heart for animals and she adored her two Shitzus: Sassy and Taz. Though a stroke in 2009 forced her into retirement, she recovered sufficiently to lead a near normal life.

In August of this year, Barbara attended the Cottonwood High School Class of ‘55 reunion. Everyone remarked how much she enjoyed seeing her friends and what a happy occasion it was for her.

Barbara is survived by her sister Elaine (Dick), daughters; Lynda (Bob), Deborah, Daneal (Bill) and sons: Michael (Karen), Richard (Cindy), 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held for her on Sept. 19, 2012 at the Tropicana Christian Fellowship Church in Las Vegas.

Barbara was very active in her church and had a wide circle of friends there. She will be missed.
