Teen Center Summit, a workshop for brainstorming strategies to create a local teen center, was held at the Cottonwood Recreation Center on Saturday, January 19. Mayor Diane Joens and members of the Cottonwood City Council were on hand to help facilitate strategies for making the proposed center a reality. Lori Deutsch and Merilee Fowler led the workshop that involved youth-oriented organizations from the community, including the Boys and Girls Club and Matforce. The Teen Center Summit came out of last year's For Our City gathering where a number of faith-based organizations and concerned citizens suggested that such a center should be a priority for the Cottonwood community, according to Mayor Joens. Deutsch and Fowler divided participants, which included many young people, into groups that addressed issues such as: fundraising; developing the goals and programs for the center; finding a space for the center; and interfacing with the community to meet the specific needs of teens.
