Vaccaro Anniversary

Richard (Dick) and Dorothy (Dottie) Vaccaro of Cottonwood celebrated their 70th anniversary on Feb. 16 at the Verde Santa Fe Clubhouse. The celebration was hosted by their daughters, Sheila Mihelich, Cindy Harms, Dana Vaccaro and Jeanette McKee. Richard and Dorothy were married Feb. 20, 1943, in Brownwood, Texas. Besides their four daughters, they have six grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Dick is originally from Eau Claire, Wis., and Dottie was born in Rising Star, Texas. The couple lived in many places while Dick was employed with the Skaggs Drug Store chain. Once he retired they moved to Forest Lakes, a mountain community outside Bayfield, Colo. While living there Dick belonged to the Lions Club, the VFW, and was a volunteer with the Upper Pine Fire District. Dottie volunteered at Mercy Hospital in Durango, Colo. They spent about 25 years in Colorado before moving to their current home in Cottonwood. Dick is a WWII veteran and was a member of the Army 101st Air Borne division. He is a Purple Heart recipient. Besides raising four daughters, Dottie was a nurse in Phoenix before retirement.
