Letter: Thank you, Verde Valley for supporting the Old Town Mission

Editor:

With our annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet approaching in March the Old Town Mission would like to thank the communities of Cottonwood, Cornville, Jerome, Camp Verde, Clarkdale, and Sedona for supporting the Mission with not only monetary and food donations but for the donation of their time.

Over 400 local residents have donated their time this past year to help serve the homeless and low income families in the Verde Valley in total our volunteers have donated over 23,450 hours.

Throughout the year we have several events including the Mail Carrier Food Drive, Back to School, Thanksgiving Boxes, Christmas Dinner, and our Christmas Toy Store these events require a lot of manpower to pull off and we are so thankful for everyone that volunteers for these events.

During our Thanksgiving dinner box program alone we had five local 3rd and 4th grade classes come in and donate their time to help prepare over 600 food bags for local families and we were able to give over 550 families a complete turkey dinner.

The Mission has been blessed with help from local clubs including Girls Scouts, Rotary Club, Computer club, local churches, Youth Advisory Board, and groups from CMS and from Mingus Union High School.

In 2012 the Old Town Mission served over 21,394 meals to those who might not have been able to have a meal that day.

The Mission provided groceries to over 14,552 families representing 43,309 family members. Without the help of our Volunteers the Mission would not be able to reach so many people.

Every day Volunteers give of their time to help this community. The Old Town Mission has a strong core group of volunteers of about 50 who are a blessing and help with all aspects of the Old Town Mission they help prepare the noon meal and clean up after the meal, they distribute grocery’s, wash dishes, fold clothes, teach classes, package food boxes, sort donated food, stock shelves, organize food drives at local stores and schools, serve at our Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners, collect toys, and so much more.

If you have an hour or two you could donate throughout the week and would like to be a part of the Old Town Mission team we are in need of volunteers who simply have a heart to help and who want to be a blessing to those in need. If you are unable to volunteer an a regular basis please join our special events team.

The Mission has Volunteer opportunities for the entire family. Please contact Kellie at 634-7869 for more information on volunteering at the Old Town Mission.
