COTTONWOOD -- The Verde Valley Medical Center Board of Directors recently selected Barbara Dember, M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E., as interim president and CEO of the hospital.

Dember joined VVMC in 2009 as the vice president of Professional Services. She is a native Arizonan and graduate of the University of Arizona.

Dember brings more than 25 years of senior executive management experience in managed care and hospital and health systems strategy, development and clinical operations. She has an extensive background in leading the development of Centers of Excellence in heart and vascular, neurosciences, oncology and surgical programs; Centers of Medical Education and research; and many outpatient programs, physician practices and community health and wellness services. Additionally, Dember has been responsible for developing multiple physician-hospital insurance organizations in the managed care arena.

As vice president at VVMC, Dember was responsible for the oversight and operations of multiple programs and services including the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare - Sedona Campus; Emergency Services - Cottonwood and Sedona campuses; Cardiology; Medical Imaging; Surgical Services; Laboratory; and Health Information Management.

In her tenure at VVMC, Dember has been instrumental in further developing key services including an affiliation agreement between the Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona Healthcare - Sedona Campus and The University of Arizona Cancer Center and expansion of the Heart & Vascular Center of Northern Arizona in Cottonwood, Sedona and Camp Verde. Additionally, she was responsible for the administrative oversight and development of VVMC's employed physician practices including family medicine and primary care, orthopedics, general surgery, cardiology, neurology, internal medicine and infectious diseases.
