COTTONWOOD - Forever homes have been found for all but one of the 11 dogs abandoned at the Adopt for Life Center for Animals on July 4.

Gregory Bernier, Out on a Limb Tree and Home Care owner, heard about the abandoned dogs and went into the shelter in the hopes of finding a dog to take on work trips.

He picked a black puppy named America.

"The whole pack went to the right, and he came around to the left," Bernier said. "He separated himself for everybody else."

Bernier and his business partner Luke Kingston renamed the puppy Zeus.

Liberty is the last to find a home due to a badly healed fracture in her leg that has kept her from being cleared for adoption. The shelter is working to raise the $500 to pay for a discounted surgery at Montezuma Veterinary Hospital in Camp Verde.

Donations can be made directly to the shelter or online at the Adopt for Life page on gofundme.com.
