Back to School: Mingus encourages online registration
Parents can find out what they need to prepare for Mingus Union High School's first day of classes on Aug. 5 by going online (www.mingusunion.com/), said Principal Jennifer Chilton.
All fees, from freshmen P.E. uniforms to book deposits, can be paid at mingusunion.com. Parents will also find an immunization schedule for children age 7 through 18.
Chilton said the school is encouraging families to come in before the first day of classes to pick up books, locker assignments and combinations, and parking passes.
"We've been emphasizing filling out the free and reduced lunch form," Chilton said. "It's convenient and gives you more time to visit with your friends if you just have lunch on campus."
Guidance office hours run through the week before classes start, and families can access computers with Internet there.
To register, students need a birth certificate, immunization record and proof of physical address. All students have to update their emergency form.
MUHS registers returning students on the last day of school the year prior, but freshmen can complete the process Aug. 2 during Freshmen Only Day.
"That gives our brand-new students time to learn where their classes are, who their teachers are, get into their lockers and find their classes," Chilton said.
She recommends students eat a good breakfast before the first bell rings at 8:35 a.m.
