Sedona Gallery Assn. hosts 1st Friday tour

Sedona's finest art galleries invite you to enjoy an evening of openings, special guests, artist receptions and celebrations at their 1st Friday Gallery Tour on June 7, 5-8 p.m.

All guests are welcome to attend free of charge and enjoy the Sedona Trolley, which does continuous loops to all locations. Some of June's highlights include:

ALT Gallery showcases paintings from the estate of famed Indian Trader C G Wallace.  Original works by J R Willis, Veloy Vigil, Valjean Hessing, Phil Hughte, and Burgess Roye are featured.  Stop by and browse the finest secondary market art in Northern Arizona.

Andrea Smith Gallery is featuring the vibrant paintings of world peace artist Andrea Smith and ultra-realist Matthew Smith. The gallery also showcases sacred art and jewelry, which Andrea travels the world to find.  They're currently taking sculpture orders for Indonesian & Thailand summer shopping trip. Meet featured artist, Surrealist Rip Rodriguez, during First Friday.

AZADI Fine Rugs presents their newest exhibition "Woven Treasures" featuring bold and uniquely patterned Baluch rugs. These tribal pieces are prized by collectors internationally. White Lotus Belly Company will perform, wine and other refreshing beverages will be served.

Gallery of Modern Masters and Javelina Cantina are hosting an artist reception to honor artist Keith Lindberg.  Special Presentation at 6:30.  A one-of-a kind artist,   his paintings are moody, romantic, optimistic, splashy, soft, emotional, and contemplative.  They are impressionistic in style, telling stories that only the viewer can interpret.

James Ratliff Gallery is pleased to present the latest paintings of young Plein-Air artist Greg Heil beginning with an opening reception on Friday, June 7th from 5-8 P.M. Heil will present a short talk at 6 PM. Greg Heil describes his work as bridging the gap between abstraction, expressionism and traditional plein-air painting. The formal structure of his work yields to his expressive use of color and the magic is in how these images draw you to them by their realism coupled with an element of fantasy.

JN Muir Sculpture Studio/Gallery in Hozho Plaza showcases "Colonel Travis-The Line", the life-sized sculpture featured in the collection of the new George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum and "Stonewall Jackson". This working studio and gallery is a haven for sculpture collectors and offers a behind-the-scenes look "from clay, to finished bronze".

Lanning Gallery opens its new exhibition "Mark English: A Solo Exhibition" welcoming the esteemed artist to town. English, a member of the Illustrators Hall of Fame, spent decades as one of America's top magazine  illustrators before turning to his much-collected fine art. His landscapes, still lifes, horses and figurative works all conceal and reveal their imagery with layers of rich color.

Mountain Trails Galleries proud to present For the Love of Horses:  Sculpture, Painting, and Drawing. Bronze sculpture by the gallery's award-winning artists include riding horses, working ranch horses and war ponies, and a wild stallion.  More than fifteen painters will portray the beloved horse in their oil on canvas and acrylic paintings. Come enjoy libations and lively conversation with these inspiring artists.

Rowe Fine Art Gallery invites you to beat the heat and get to know our award-winning painters, sculptors and jewelers. Wine and appetizers will be served throughout the evening

Sedona Arts Center invites you to join them in "Celebrating Joella Jean Mahoney." She paints outdoors in the plein air tradition to capture the color and immediacy of a scene and then returns to her studio to develop her rich and refined paintings on fresh canvas from memory to capture not only the scene, but the emotion and meaning the experience generated. Her works have been exhibited widely in both public and private collections.

Turquoise Tortoise Gallery opens its new exhibition, "Rainforest Baskets," and showcases their collection of museum-quality baskets hand woven by Wounaan Indian women in Panama's rainforest. Many experts consider these the finest quality indigenous weavings in the world. Stop in to learn more about this fascinating culture, deeply threatened by the modern world's intrusions. And see the gallery's latest acquisitions: There are sizes from small to large and designs from geometrics to floral to rainforest fauna. Exhibition through June 16.
