Laugh Out Loud: Stand-up comedy comes to Cottonwood
Finally, stand-up comedy comes to Cottonwood.
Local comedian John Blair has been solicited by popular demand to do stand up right here in Cottonwood. So on Saturday, June 22, at Players Sports Bar Grill, 1100 S. 260 in the Fry's Shopping Center, there will be two shows.
The doors open at 6 p.m. Showtime's at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. John has lined up four of his favorite comedians to entertain the crowd. As for some insight about the comedians that will be performing at Players on Saturday...
First of all we have your host of the show John Blair. He was born early one humid St. Louis summer day in 1959. By nightfall he was dead, shot in the face with a nickel plated forty five. A mentally unstable priest mistook young John for the Anti-Christ, who was, actually in the next room. Too bad, because his destiny was to be one of the greatest comedians of all time. John has performed stand-up at The Hidden House, The Comedy Spot, The World famous Tempe Improv, and The World Series of Comedy, and Big Al's Comedy Club in Las Vegas.
The opener, Tom Speaks, has performed throughout the Phoenix area, in all the major comedy clubs, street corners, and jail cells. His comedy is dry, ironic, and gets the audience involved! Always a good time.
Next, the feature act is Kate St Peter. Kate is funny -- not just "funny for a girl." She's irreverent and edgy, but just cute and silly enough to get away with it. She shares her personal struggles as the mother of a special needs child in a refreshingly honest style. She's dark and twisted, yet strangely lovable. What people are saying about Kate St. Peter: "I've never even heard of this girl."- The New York Times. "She's even funny when you're sober or so I've heard."- Kate's Mom. "I'd hit that." - Kate's Uncle.
Finally the headliner is Greg Freiler. He was moved about the country frequently throughout his childhood by parents on the run from something. What? No one knows. Attending a different school year after year. Always the new kid. He learned early to use his sense of humor and joke-telling ability to make friends and ward off potential bullies.
Greg has spent the past 14 years in education. Ten years as a high school teacher. Using humor to engage and entertain colleagues, students and occasionally putting a bully in their place. He's spent the past two years working as a substitute. Like being the new kid all over again! Except this time, it's on a DAILY basis! This has provided Greg with a wealth of source material. His comedy is drawn from both professional and personal experiences.
Greg's comedy is rooted in school, students and his personal life. He draws humorous observations and insight on the teaching profession, history and the world in general.
So bring your sense of humor and remember we strive to be clean and cleaver however that said this is adult comedy show sometimes its fun to get a little dirty. There will be a $10 cover at the door.
