City looks at amended map for MUHS
COTTONWOOD - The Cottonwood Council heard the first reading of an ordinance that would amend the city zoning map for 15 acres of land of Mingus Union High School west Camino Real. The second and final reading of the ordinance is expected during the next regular council meeting.
The high school, which the State Facilities Board says may not build on the land, hopes to sell the property to generate money for school facilities, even though the land may not be used. The school is asking that the land be rezoned for multi-family use, R-2. The land is now zoned agricultural.
A stipulation is that no more than 165 units be planned for the site. If not developed within five years, the land would revert to its original zoning.
A resolution, passed Tuesday, approves a minor amendment to the Cottonwood General Plan.
