CAP Commander honors veterans at annual Memorial Day Observance
It's an event for the entire family; old and young, man and woman, so plan to attend the American Legion Post 135 third annual Memorial Day event to be held on May 25, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Cornville Windmill Park. The park is located at 9950 E. Cornville Rd. in Cornville. The public is invited and welcome to attend.
Keynote speaker is Commander, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), Verde Valley Composite Squadron 205, John D. Rosenthal. A retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel, Rosenthal joined the Verde Valley Composite Squadron 205 in January, 2012, after relocating to Cornville with his wife - Mary Ann Barkus from Lambertville, New Jersey. A retired senior Air National Guard officer, Lt Col Rosenthal saw more than 32 years of service in the US Air Force, Air Force Reserve and New Jersey Air National Guard. His credentials include his final assignment until, his retirement in March 2001 as Chief of Staff, 108 Air Refueling Wing, NJANG; one of three super tanker wings in the ANG.
According to Post 135 Cmdr, Sherie Mercier, "with Colonel Rosenthal's distinguished military aviation background and current involvement with the youth in our communities, his words of reflection and future direction should prove to be enlightening."
Also participating in this year's event is Sedona Brownie Troop 1021 and American Legion Post 93 Honor Guard from Camp Verde. Serving as master of ceremony is Post 135 Service Officer, Ken Johnson, while Tom Gore, Post Chaplain, will deliver the opening and closing prayer. And last but not least, bagpiper Michael Donelson from Williams.
Due to traditional warm temperatures, participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and umbrella. Following the program, attendees will be offered a sweet-treat donated by the American Legion Post 135 Auxiliary along with bottled cold water.
