Fire burns garage in Verde Village

Crews from Verde Valley Fire District and Cottonwood Fire Department were dispatched to a home Tuesday evening on Rainbow Drive in the Verde Village.

About 4:15 p.m., occupants reported smoke coming from their detached garage. They attempted to knock down the fire with a garden hose but - unsuccessful -- they stopped and called 911.

When crews arrived smoke was rising from the garage and they launched an interior attack to stop the spread of the fire which begun burning the interior wall but did not spread to the main residence. The cause of the fire is under investigation but is possibly due to an electrical short

There were no injuries

The fire district says if a fire starts in your home, the best thing you can do is call 911 immediately, get outside the building, and make sure everyone is accounted for.
