Delene Wayt-Andricks

Delene Wayt-Andricks joined her earthly family on August 19, 1941. She was born to Delmer "Chris" and Helen Criswell in Tucson, Arizona. Her brother Everett, sisters Bettie and Thyna, and youngest brother Rodney soon followed. She spent her childhood in Tucson and moved with her newlywed husband Loy Wayt to Cottonwood in 1960. Following their arrival to the Verde Valley, they had a daughter Rhonda and a son Jeff.

Delene found her calling as a school bus driver in 1972. She safely delivered the children of Cottonwood to and from school for a total of 27 years. She also drove for CATS through the 1990's. Delene's proudest moment as a driver was the honor of being selected as Arizona's 2010 School Bus Driver of the Year.

Her passions in life were her faith in Jesus Christ and her love for animals. She lived a charitable life, finding her strength through helping others. Everyone knew her as a compassionate soul with a Bible verse for all situations. God's light truly shined through her.

Delene joined her heavenly family on September 23, 2013, ending a 5-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Her brother Everett, husband Loy, father Delmer "Chris", second husband John, and niece Laura preceded her in death. She leaves behind her mother Helen Criswell of Cottonwood, sisters Bettie Lund of Cottonwood and Thyna Parker with her husband Danny of Camp Verde, brother Rodney Criswell of Cottonwood, daughter Rhonda Boughner with her husband Micky of Cornville, her son Jeff Wayt with his wife Lisa of Las Vegas, grandchildren Michael, Sarah, Corey, Ryan, Trevor, eight great grandchildren, and countless friends.

Even in passing, Delene sought to help others. She donated her body to science with the hopes that her brief success battling one of deadliest forms of cancer would benefit other victims. A Celebration of Delene's life will be held at the Cottonwood Christian Assembly on October 26 at 12:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Best Friends Animal Society or Rising Hope Food Pantry at Cottonwood Christian Assembly in Delene's honor.
