City awards water line project
COTTONWOOD -- Cottonwood has awarded a contract to Northern Arizona Equipment, which submitted the lowest bid of three Job Order Contractors, to install a new waterline on 12th Street.
The city used the JOC list since the waterline is closely-monitored and technical work. Northern Arizona Equipment bid $348,700.
The 2200-foot line will replace a troublesome smaller diameter line. City staff believes that by separating the work involved in the new water line placement and a new reclaimed water line at the centerline of the roadway would avoid further traffic congestion as part of the road rebuilding.
The council consideration of the contract along with the renewal of the three job order contractors prompted a discussion that the city needs to invite contractors to submit their qualifications for the job order positions. Development Services Manager Dan Lueder said the positions were created after a review of qualifications. He says the contractors are also among the few large enough to handle the often-technical jobs.
The council agreed they would put the contracts out for a Statement of Qualification when their one-year renewal expires.
