Romeo & Juliet: Direct from Broadway at SIFF, starring Orlando Bloom
Celebrate Valentine's Day with "Romeo and Juliet" starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad - direct from Broadway. The recent revival and limited engagement of one of Shakespeare's most well-known and performed plays is now coming to the big screen at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre, Feb. 13-14, presented by the Sedona International Film Festival. Showtimes will be 4 and 7 p.m. both days.
Jealousy. Prejudice. Betrayal. And the chance that true love could actually conquer all. It could only be the greatest love story of all time, and, for the first time in over 36 years, it played live on Broadway in a stunningly modern production from five-time Tony Award-nominee David Leveaux.
Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings) and two-time Tony Award-nominee Condola Rashad (Stick Fly, The Trip to Bountiful) turn up the heat as Broadway's hottest, rule-breaking, heart-aching couple, "Romeo and Juliet." This production retains Shakespeare's language while moving the setting to contemporary times.
The acclaimed cast of 25 included Tony Award-winners Brent Carver (Kiss of the Spider Woman), Chuck Cooper (The Life), two-time Tony-nominee Jayne Houdyshell (Follies) and Christian Camargo (All My Sons).
Critics and audiences are raving about this revival of "Romeo and Juliet". The New York Times calls the production "genuinely luminous" and says "Mr. Bloom makes a first-rate Broadway debut and the gifted (Condola) Rashad exudes a too-fine-for-this-world purity that makes their characters' love feel sacred."
"Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to see a new Broadway production in high definition on the big screen, right here in Sedona," said film festival director Patrick Schweiss. "Experience a 'Romeo and Juliet' like you've never seen before, and relive the magic of the greatest love story of all time - the perfect way to celebrate Valentine's Day."
Broadway's "Romeo and Juliet" will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 13 and 14, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. both days. Tickets are $15, or $12.50 for Film Festival members. Tickets are available in advance at the Sedona International Film Festival office or by calling (928) 282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. 89A, in West Sedona.
