Cottonwood Teen Center on the move in 2014
COTTONWOOD -- The Verde Valley Teen Center concept is expected to start taking shape beginning early in 2014.
Chairman Marianne Jiménez says a Cottonwood code review has OK'd the proposed upgrades to the former Cottonwood Fire Department building on Mingus Avenue. The upgrades will make the city-owned building both code compliant and work practically for the new purpose. The council has verbally agreed to a long-term lease of the building on Mingus opposite the Cottonwood Middle School for the Teen Center organization.
During the regular council meeting Jan. 7, the council will be asked to formally sign lease agreement.
Jiménez says the contractor has indicated it will take about a month to perform the changes. The organization is looking for volunteers and donation of funds and materials to put the changes in place.
She says opening of the new Teen Center will depend upon contributions.
The organization has held a number of events including a brainstorming session a dance and various fundraisers.
The organization has a Facebook page at Verde Valley Youth Commission.
