Have Instruments - Need Players

The Cottonwood Community Band invites area instrumentalists from Sedona and throughout the Verde Valley to join the band when it resumes rehearsals on Monday, Aug. 4, 7-9 p.m. in the Cottonwood Middle School band room (Room 301).

There is no audition and the band welcomes all instrumentalists who read music, especially trumpeters, percussionists, trombonists, French horn players, and clarinetists.

Thanks to generous donations from members of the community, the Cottonwood Community Band has several instruments available to musicians who used to play in a band but no longer own an instrument.

The band has two trumpets, two French Horns, a trombone, a tuba, and a flute to loan to members of the community interested in joining the band.

Members of the band range from high school age to retirees.

Geek Talk from the VVMC librarian

Friday, 10-11 a.m., at Camp Verde Community Library, as part of the Summer Reading Program Geek Talks, Daphne Platt, librarian at the Verde Valley Medical Center, will share her knowledge of medical information and the Internet. Daphne has been here since November 2013 and comes from Kentucky. She holds an associate's degree in Business Administration. She is a Navy veteran and was a dental assistant.

Kids clothing exchange, free clinic

On Saturday, Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church hosts a clothing exchange for children -- infant to teens.

There will also be a free children's clinic, designed to serve uninsured and underinsured families.

School physicals and sports physicals are also available. No appointment is necessary. The time is 9 a.m.-noon.

Blues Dawg at Clarkdale's Concerts in the Park

The contemporary electric blues band Blues Dawg will perform for Clarkdale's Concerts in the Park series on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Concerts are at the Clarkdale Town Park gazebo and are free to the public.

 The park is located in the center of the town's historic district on Main Street, between 10th and 11th Streets.

Remember to bring your own seating. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the park.

Call to Artists for Made In Clarkdale Art Show 2014

Made In Clarkdale Art Show 2014 begins with jurying in new artists! The jurying dates for the Made In Clarkdale annual show will be Saturday, Aug. 9, Sept.13, and Oct. 11.

Artists must live, work, or be taking art classes in Clarkdale to be eligible.

Jurying is held at the Yavapai-Apache Learning Center, 1630 Beecher St. in upper Clarkdale.

Cornville Farmers Market

The Cornville Farmers Market ​continues weekly​​ at Windmill Park ​every ​Monday from 4 p.m. until the veggies run out. Set up is available from ​3:30 p.m. and vendors must supply their own tables, chairs, shelter, cooler, ice, etc. and must set up, take down, and clean their own area.

Spaces are available on a first-come, first- served basis. A

fter unloading, vendor vehicles are to be parked outside the park or as directed by the Market Manager. Alcohol is not permitted in the park.

Free healthy-living workshop

Mingus Youth Football Camp

Mingus Youth Football Camp will be Wednesday-Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each day. The camp is for age 6 through incoming high school freshmen.

Allie Ollie Library Fund-raiser

Support your Cottonwood Public Library in fashion with Allie Ollie, a local ladies clothing store. Allie Ollie will be sponsoring the library with an event from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Cottonwood Parks and Recreation Center at 150 S. Sixth St., across the street from the library. Local ladies will model a variety of outfits from Allie Ollie. Refreshments will be served in addition to having vendors and a silent auction with items donated from businesses throughout the Verde Valley. All money raised will go to support the Cottonwood Public Library.

Family Movie Night at the Vineyard

Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Cottonwood is having a family movie night on Saturday at 5 p.m. showing THE LEGO MOVIE. Open to the public with free admission, free popcorn, and free candy. Cottonwood McDonald's to host Backpack Saturday

The first 100 children, accompanied by parent, who visit Cottonwood and northern Arizona McDonald's restaurants at 8 a.m., on Saturday will receive a free backpack to help families prepare for school . The free backpack offer excludes Walmart restaurant locations.

Children will also receive a free Go-GURT low-fat strawberry yogurt, in celebration of McDonald's new Happy Meal choice. In addition, a special educational bookmark from Expect More Arizona's "Today I Will" initiative will be distributed to parents.

Now Enrolling at Hilltop Christian Preschool
