Betty Leora Burrus

Betty Leora Burrus passed peacefully in her sleep at her home in Cottonwood on May 5, 2014. Betty was born October 1, 1924 in Flagstaff, Arizona, and grew up on a farm near Winslow, the fourth of eight children of Norman and Gladys Bennett.

On November 25, 1942, she married the love of her life, Henry. They moved to the Burrus Ranch in Munds Park, and two years later purchased the ranch from Henry's parents. They worked the ranch until the mid to late 50's when they sold and moved to Sedona. There they raised their son, made many friends and created cherished memories.

Henry passed in 1987 and Betty spent her remaining years in the Verde Valley. Betty took great pleasure in quilting with her sisters, making baby quilts for friends and fishing with family and friends at Dog Town Lake. She was also an unknown gifted writer. She was passionate about her family and deeply loved each and every one of them.

She leaves behind her only son, Norman Burrus, her grandchildren, Jamie and Donnie and her great-grandchildren, Blair and Kevin; all of the Verde Valley. She is also survived by her sister, Cogi Munson of Bullhead City, Arizona.

Betty requested her body be donated to "Research for life" and her ashes spread near her husband Henry's off Schnebly Hill into Casner Canyon.

The family would greatly appreciate written memories be sent to 2100 S. Trails End Drive, Cottonwood, AZ 86326 or emailed to yiptwojamie@msn.com.
