$1,500 donation from Fry's to help schools in Yavapai County
PRESCOTT -- A $1,500 contribution from the Fry's Fund, a part of the parent Kroger Foundation and an independent 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, will be added to grant program funds offered through the Yavapai County Education Foundation.
The Fry's Fund provides support to qualified non-profits that focus on certain areas like K-12 education.
Tim Wiederaenders, YCEF president, said, "These additional funds will be used to support the Classroom Teacher Grant Program, which awards grants to Yavapai County teachers and schools to purchase supplies or fund special projects."
He added that the Fry's Fund contribution arrived at a propitious time, as the YCEF has just finished soliciting grant applications and now will begin the review process to determine amounts of awards to various schools, districts or teachers for the 2014-2015 school year.
"Historically, grant requests far exceed the funds we have available, so the additional $1,500 from Fry's gives us a little more 'flexibility" than we have had in the past. Every dollar we receive for grants benefits teachers and schools-- and ultimately, students-- right here in Yavapai County."
Classroom Teacher Grants of up to $500 and Building, District or School Matching Grants of up to $1,000 will be distributed by the YCEF in December.
In 2013, the YCEF awarded more than $15,000 to four school and 25 classroom teacher projects.
"We will have a bit more to distribute this year because of the generosity of corporations like Fry's," Wiederaenders said. "Of course, we can always use more."
The YCEF is a non-profit, non-governmental organization with the sole mission of promoting and providing support for qualified public, charter and private schools and teachers throughout Yavapai County. For more information about YCEF and its grant programs, please visit www.ycefoundation.com.
