John Joseph ‘J. J.’ Silvas

John Joseph "J. J." Silvas was born on April 30, 1946 in Los Angeles, California to Louis and Louise Silvas. As a child J. J. lived in LA and Montebello before settling in Simi Valley, CA for the next 20 years.

In 1990, J. J. moved to Downey, CA and then on to Cottonwood, Arizona in 2003 after retiring from Southern California Gas Company with 35 years of service.

J.J. proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.

J. J. loved the Verde Valley and enjoyed volunteering with the Cottonwood Police Department where he provided high visibility patrols, conducted background investigations, maintained the Mobile Command Unit.

He also volunteered with the Verde Valley Water and SciTech Festivals. J. J. enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He loved to cook great food for people he cared about.

J. J. leaves a legacy of love and integrity with his family, co-workers, and friends. He leaves behind wonderful memories of an awesome husband, a loving father, and fun grandfather. We are all grateful for every day we got to see his glowing smile, for the lessons learned, and all the laughs we shared.

J. J. is survived by his wife of 22 fun-filled years, Kathy; son Michael; daughter Shannon; granddaughters Isabella and Abigail; best friend and grandfather in-law James Oliver; sister Lorraine Webster; and brother James. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Above all, he loved and cherished his family and friends. J. J. set a sterling example as a son, husband, father and grandfather.

He was spiritually strong, incredibly compassionate, possessing a unique sense of humor.

We miss him more than words can express. We love you J. J.!

A celebration of J. J.'s life will be held Sunday April 19, 2015 at 10 AM in the Cottonwood Public Safety Building. We will share memories and celebrate a life well lived.
