Festival presents 'Cop Car' and 'After Words' Aug. 21-26
New acclaimed independent films premiere at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre
The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premieres of "After Words" (starring Academy Award-winner Marcia Gay Harden) and "Cop Car" (starring Kevin Bacon) showing Aug. 21-26 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.
A small town Sheriff (Kevin Bacon) sets out to find the boys who have taken his car on a dangerous joyride in "Cop Car", directed by Jon Watts.
Two good-natured but rebellious young boys (James Freedson-Jackson and Hays Wellford) have claimed their independence and - unbeknownst to their families - ran away from home.
Equipped with some beef jerky, they stroll through golden fields making their way towards a secluded glade where they find an abandoned cop car. Curious and excited, they explore the car, find the keys and take the car for a joyride. Their bad decision unleashes the ire of the car's owner, a county sheriff (Kevin Bacon), who has left something of great value in the car and is desperate to get it back.
A fast-paced game of cat-and-mouse ensues and the boys quickly discover that the fun is over and they are in way over their heads - and the only way out is to go as fast as their cop car can take them.
"Cop Car" will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Aug. 22-26. Showtimes will be 4 p.m. on Saturday and Monday, Aug. 22 and 24; and 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 25 and 26.
Everyone deserves a love story.
"After Words" is a romantic adventure.
Academy Award-winner Marcia Gay Harden stars as Jane, a bookish introvert, who loses her job as a librarian and spirals downward into depression.
The library and all of its books gave her life a meaning. Jane contemplates suicide and decides to see something beautiful before she dies, traveling to tropical, picturesque Costa Rica.
Once there she meets a younger man named Juan ("scar Jaenada), a charming, charismatic tour guide who makes his living off the many single female tourists who come to town.
Together, they embark on an adventure into the heart of Costa Rica.
The awkward pair experience a transformational journey where Juan reads his first book and Jane comes to appreciate what "Pura Vida" (Pure Life) has to offer in a way that may change her plans to "end it all" in paradise.
Together, they experience an unexpected journey filled with adventure and romance.
"After Words" was produced and directed by Juan Feldman and written by Joel Silverman.
"After Words" will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre Aug. 21-26. Showtimes will be 4 p.m. on Friday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 21, 25 and 26; and 7 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, Aug. 23 and 24.
