Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off May 2
The Rotary Club of Sedona is excited to announce the fifth annual Great Sedona Chili Cook-off Sunday, May 2, at Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village, a part of the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta weekend.
Top chefs from Sedona and the surrounding communities are busy perfecting their special chili recipes which will be sampled at festive booths in Tlaquepaque's Calle de Independencia. This year, two new "hot" chili cook-off competitions will feature a Fire Chief's Challenge and a Community Challenge. Early restaurant registration for the cook-off is encouraged because space is limited.
New for 2015 will be the Community Chili Cook-Off Challenge. Restaurants from each community will compete as a group against each other for the right to claim the Community Chili Champion Award and the bragging rights as Verde Valley's best chili destination.
Also new for 2015 is the Fire Chief's Challenge. Fire Chief Kris Kazian of the Sedona Fire District and his firefighters will go head-to-head with Nazeh Hazime, Fire Chief of the Verde Valley Fire District and his crew. They will bring their best chili making skills to a knockdown, drag -out competition that will have the entire Verde Valley "burning" with excitement!
Not only will the restaurants in surrounding communities and Sedona be competing as a group against each other, they will be competing individually for the People's Choice Award, Judge's Award and the Best Booth Décor Award. The People's Choice and Judge's Award winners will receive cash prizes. The Best Booth Award will receive a trophy.
Each year, the proceeds collected from the Chili Cook-off are used to fund charitable Rotary programs and activities. The primary local charity benefiting from the proceeds of this event is the IMAGINATION LIBRARY. The Imagination Library provides free age appropriate books to children ages 0 to 5 in the greater Sedona area. The Rotary Club is working to expand this program that now reaches over 330 preschoolers monthly. In addition to the Imagination Library, event proceeds will continue to be used to support your scholarships and various international programs as well as Rotary International's signature project, END POLIO NOW, the eradication of polio worldwide.
