Verde Village home destroyed by fire

VERDE VILLLAGE -- Verde Valley Fire crews were called at 4:12 a.m. Sunday morning and dispatched to a residential house fire on Rio Verde Drive. Fire crews found a single-story home of about 1,800 square feet with heavy smoke and fire pouring from the roof.

The call was elevated to a "working fire" and additional units were dispatched. Crews quickly placed hose lines and started an initial defensive-mode attack and then moved to interior operations.

The fire was discovered by neighbors who called 911. There were no injuries. No one was home at the time except three family dogs, which all perished.

Verde Valley Fire District was assisted with neighboring agencies including Cottonwood FD, Verde Valley Ambulance Company, APS, Unisource, and YCSO.
