Letter: Design roads for riders as bicycling is here to stay
In recent years Cottonwood has placed bicycle symbols on the streets that are lacking a bike lane to indicate that bicyclists may be present within the roadway.
On many streets particularly those that are newly reconstructed 4-foot bike lanes are present.
In fact, when Mingus Avenue is rebuilt in from the Willard Street roundabout to 10th street, the bike lanes on both sides of the street will be 5-feet wide.
Hopefully, this will encourage middle school students and adults to ride their bikes and feel safe on Mingus.
Cottonwood is actively planning to move from a Bronze rating to a Silver rating as a Bicycle Friendly Community.
Bicycling is here to stay and more and more communities are designing their streets to better accommodate the bicycle community.
Thank you Cottonwood for recognizing bicyclists as road users.
