Police chief candidates to meet public
COTTONWOOD -- Six candidates vying to fill the shoes of retiring Cottonwood Police Chief Jody Fanning will meet the public Wednesday evening in Cottonwood.
The community meet and greet will be held at the Cottonwood Public Safety Building, 199 S. 6th Street in Cottonwood from 5 to 7 p.m.
In September, City Manager Doug Bartosh outlined the hiring process for the council, saying there is no need to do a national search. Arizona, he says, has a good supply of quality candidates, already familiar with state law, who would not need to be moved to the state or to be certified here.
At that time, Bartosh introduced three potential candidates within the city.
The community informal standing reception is the second phase of the screening process.
The original applications were paper screened. Semi-finalists were interviewed by phone.
The short list of finalists are being brought to Cottonwood for face to face interviews by committees, the council and manager. They include Gareth Braxton-Johnson, Gary Eisenga, Stephen Gesell, Jacquelyn MacConnell, Jody Makuch and Dale Walters.
