VERDE VALLEY - A man awaiting trial here on child porn charges, and out on bond, was stopped at an airport in New Mexico as he prepared to fly to the country of Jordan, Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said.

Samir Mahmoud Wadi, 41, is facing 12 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. On Sept. 29, a Homeland Security special agent received information that Wadi, who was out of custody on a $30,000 bond, was trying to leave the U.S., D'Evelyn said.

The agent obtained an arrest warrant and contacted federal agents in New Mexico. They located Wadi at the Albuquerque airport and took him into custody.

Wadi was preparing to fly to Amman, Jordan and "was traveling with a large amount of luggage and had left his Mercedes unlocked with the keys inside in the parking facility," D'Evelyn said.

Homeland Security and the U.S. Marshal's Service are working to extradite Wadi to Arizona, he added.
