Verde Valley Newspapers wins five awards at state competition
The Verde Independent/Camp Verde Bugle received five awards from the Arizona Newspaper Association during its annual fall convention, held Sept. 26.
In the ANA's 2015 Better Newspapers Contest, judged by the Nebraska Press Association, 54 newspapers from across the state competed in a variety of categories.
A total of 1,633 entries were submitted.
In the group of non-daily newspapers with a circulation of less than 3,500, the VVN Editorial department won the following awards: photographer Vyto Starinskas was awarded first place for Best News Photograph; former reporter Derek Evans was awarded first place for Best Sports Story and third place for Best Team, Sport or Sports Beat Coverage; and the Bugle took third place for Best Use of Photography.
In the Advertising competition, VVN's Advertising and Graphics department was awarded first place for Best Special Section for the weekly publication Kudos Art and Gallery Guide.
