Mingus Swim splits meet with Sedona and NPA

COTTONWOOD - Anytime you have two teams from the Verde Valley competing on the same field or in the same pool it's bound to be a good matchup. On Tuesday, the Mingus Swim team took on the Sedona Scorpions, and Northland Prep Academy. The boys took home victories over both NPA and Sedona. They defeated NPA by a final score of 48-45 and they defeated their rivals from Sedona 64-25.

The girl's squad split the meet, beating Sedona 60-34, and losing to NPA 39-55.

There was success all over the board from both the girls and the boy's teams Tuesday afternoon. The girls 200 medley relay team took 2nd with Hannah Arwine, Macee cook, Rylie Burke, and Emily Dorris.

The 200 medley relay team was able to take 1st place with Caleb Furey, Fletch Fangman, Sean Williams, and Gunner Tillemans. The same boys also took 1st place in the 200m freestyle relay. Emily Dorris, Hannah Arwine, and Rylie Burke were joined by Emily Grasso in the 200m freestyle relay where they also took 1st place.

In the 50m freestyle, Sean Williams was joined by teammate Caleb Furey in the top two spots, with Williams winning the event for a third straight meet. Williams also took home the 100m free for Mingus as well.

Sophomore Gunner Tillemans took 2nd place in both the 200m freestyle and the 500 meter freestyle.

David Briggs had a successful day in the pool as well for the Marauders. Briggs was able to win the 100m butterfly race and also took 2nd in the 100m backstroke. Teammate Jonah Bramblett followed suit in the 100m backstroke taking 3rd place behind Briggs. Caleb Furey was able to place 2nd in the 100m breaststroke. Fletch Fangman also had success for the Marauders taking home 2nd place in the 200m IM.

For the girls, Skylar Mohr took home 2nd place in both the 200m freestyle as well as the 500m freestyle.

In the 500m freestyle Mohr was followed by teammate Sarah Bramblett who took home 3rd. Along with her second place finish in the 200m medley relay, Emily Dorris took home 2nd places in the 50m freestyle and was victorious in the 100m backstroke for the Marauders.

Rylie Burke took home a 2nd place finish in the 100m freestyle and was followed into the top three by teammate Emily Grasso who took 3rd. Macee Cook took home a 3rd place finish in the 100m breaststroke and Christine Wills, Anissa Zorrilla, Emily Grasso and Skylar Mohr finished 3rd in the 400m freestyle relay for the Marauders.

The Marauders travel to Chandler on Saturday for their first qualifying meet of the year.
