United Methodist indoor/outdoor garage sale to benefit Mission ministries

Mission ministries will be among the beneficiaries when Mountain View United Methodist Church has its annual indoor/outdoor garage sale Friday and Saturday, April 8-9.

Sponsored by the church's United Methodist Women and United Methodist Men's groups, the sale will be from 7 a.m. to4 p.m. Friday, with Saturday hours from 7 a.m. to noon.

Hundreds of items, ranging from books to tools to furniture and clothing will be for sale in the Cottonwood church's Verde Hall and parking lot at 901 S 12th St.

Among UMMen mission projects are supporting a sister church in Mexico, scholarships, and CASA children's support group

Organizations for which the women's group has used sale proceeds are the Christian Lighthouse Foundation in Haiti, Verde Valley Senior Center and the House of Ruth and UMW missions worldwide.

Summer meals program at Mingus Union High School

Mingus Union High School Summer Food Service Program will start on May 21, and will continue through June 21. Meals will be provided from 11 a.m. to noon to all children 18 and younger without charge at MUHS, 1801 E. Fir St. Cottonwood.

April 13 Autism Awareness for First Responders

Wednesday, April 13 at 10 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Verde Valley Fire District Chief Nazih Hazime teaches Autism Awareness to First Responders at the Camp Verde Marshal's Office Training Room. Camp Verde Community Library is partnering with local organizations to educate, resource, and support community members facing autism, as part of the library's $11,000 autism grant, and in observance of April Autism Awareness Month. RSVP by April 12th.

Sarah McLean to speak at Parkinson Support Group Meeting

Sarah McLean, founding director and expert trainer at the McLean Meditation Institute in Sedona, will speak to the Verde Valle Parkinson Support Group at its April 8th meeting, 3:00-4:30 PM, at the Verde Valley Medical Center, Conference Room B, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood, AZ.

Combining the latest in scientific information with an interactive relaxation session, McLean will introduce the group to meditation, just as she's done for so many others - individually, in small groups, and in conjunction with corporate wellness programs. In response to extensive research findings, she includes meditation and relaxation exercises in her programs, along with other strategies to reduce stress and enhance wellbeing.

Individuals with Parkinson disease, their family, care partners and friends are always invited to attend the Verde Valley Parkinson Support Group monthly meetings. The group meets the second Friday of every month, 3:00-4:30 PM, at the Verde Valley Medical Center, Conference Room B, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood, AZ. April 8 Free Family Movie Night

Camp Verde Parks and Recreation and Community Library announces our next Free Family Movie Night Friday, April 8 at 6:30 pm. Bring the family and enjoy a PG-13 rated movie, Captain America - The Winter Soldier with free popcorn. Showings are in Room 204 in the Community Center Complex, behind the Historical Society Museum. Movies are scheduled the second and fourth Friday of the month through April. These free movies are fun for the whole family and a chance to get out of the house. BCAC will hold their Spring Arts & Crafts Fair and Bake Sale on Friday and Saturday, April 8th and 9th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the Adult Center and Rollins Park located on Zuni Way in Lake Montezuma. April 30 Cereal for Seniors Food Drive

The Camp Verde Marshal's Office Challenges Camp Verde to help with Meals on Wheels' "Cereal for Seniors" Food Drive. The Camp Verde Marshal's Office will have a cruiser parked at the Outpost Mall, 522 Finnie Flats Rd on April 30 between 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Bring any box of cereal or other non-perishable breakfast food item and place it into the cruiser. Together we can make a difference for the seniors in our community.

April 12 Ask a Cop

Camp Verde Community Library: Tuesday, April 12 from 10 a.m. - noon, the Camp Verde Marshal's Office (CVMO) will offer a public presentation on law enforcement operations in the CVMO Training Room, 646 South 1st Street, Camp Verde. Get a behind-the-scenes look and find out fact from fiction during a questions and answer session. Mystery readers, writers, and anyone interested in police work may attend. Professional Women's Group Quarterly Luncheon April 19

The local Chapter of Professional Women's Group will have their quarterly luncheon of 2016 Tuesday April 19. The luncheon will be at the Cottonwood Recreation Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and include a speaker presentation, networking opportunities, catered lunch, and raffle/door prizes. This month's luncheon will be catered by Jerona Cafe in Cottonwood.

Pre -registration for this event is required and you can sign up at www.pwgaz.org. Walk-ins welcome Pre-Registration, $10, lunch included. Walk-ins $15, lunch not guaranteed.
