Former Clarkdale resident earns degree in dentistry

Steven Tucker Burnett was awarded a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Oregon Health and Science University Sunday, June 12, 2016 in Portland, Oregon. Sixteen relatives traveling from Arizona, Washington and Oregon attended the ceremony.

Born and raised in the Verde Valley, Dr. Burnett is a 2006 graduate of Mingus Union High School. Prior to matriculating at OHSU, Dr. Burnett studied biology at Arizona State University, graduating magna cum laude, in 2011. At ASU, he was awarded the "Faculty Choice Award."

Dr. Steve Vergara, DDS, of Cottonwood who is Dr. Burnett's uncle, was invited to participate in the commencement. A very special moment took place when Dr. Vergara conveyed Dr. Burnett's status as a doctor of Medical Dentistry in the hooding ceremony.

Dr. Burnett has had a life-long love of travel and adventure. He has accepted a position in Public Health in Bethel, Alaska, at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Center. He looks forward to providing dental health care to Alaskan natives, while enjoying winter sports, hunting and fishing.

Prior to beginning his career in Alaska, Dr. Burnett is traveling to Viet Nam and Cambodia.

Dr. Burnett is the son of Steven and Nanci Burnett of Clarkdale, and the grandson of Eddie Vergara of Scottsdale, Ricci Vergara of Cottonwood, Nancy and Mike Burnett of Cottonwood.
